Silk comforters keep you comfortable over a wider range of temperatures, unlike down or polyester which is fairly tog specific. Down comforters form a physical barrier between your body and your surroundings, meaning the heat you give off reflects directly back at you. This process continues throughout the night resulting in overheating. Silk comforters are designed to allow air to flow more freely and thus regulate your body's heat.
The cotton cover is soft enough, but still we suggest to apply an extra comforter cover for easier cleaning.
Silk can absorb water up to 30% of its own weight before it feels damp. As the temperature in the bed rises, you perspire more. The water then evaporates from the comforter/s because of your body heat. Evaporation causes cooling. So in effect the comforter acts as a thermostat. The more you heat up the more the silk will provide cooling and vice versa. So you get a good night’s sleep at an even temperature all night long.
Silk, being a natural product has a distinctive odour. This can often be mistaken for a slight chemical-like smell, but is just the natural odour of pure silk. In our experience the odour can be most noticeable when the duvets are first unpacked, but this dissipates after a few hours and is completely gone after a few days. Some duvet manufacturers bleach the silk before the manufacturing process to get rid of this smell. However, this totally undermines the natural properties of silk. Cpdchannel comforters are 100% natural, and are not manufactured using any harmful chemicals; as a result these products may have a natural silk odour.
Cpdchannel makes it easy for you to care your silk comforters. All the care your comforter should need when used in conjunction with a comforter cover is to be aired in the sun about twice a year. They can also be machine washed at 30°C or dry wash it. (Silk doesn’t mind water, but is weakened by too much heat).
A Silk Worms thread can be over a mile long; though ½ a mile is more normal. The comforter filling is made by stretching out many layers of unspun silk on a table reflecting the area of the comforter. Each stretched layer looks like gossamer before it is laid on its fellows. These layers cannot move against each other, so there is no possibility of the silk floss migrating, or bunching up, within the comforter. A tacking stitch is then sown in every 40cm or so to hold the floss in place in relation to the comforter’s silk shell.
House Mites and Dust Mites are a very frequent cause of allergic reaction in the home. One of their favourite locations is bedding. Their food source there is the dead skin that we naturally shed. Many people are allergic to the mites’ faeces. It has been observed that these mites will not –or perhaps cannot- live in silk. So, provided all the non-silk bedding is washed regularly at 60°C+ to keep it “mite-free”, this source of allergy can be controlled.
